Council Action Requested:

Obtain Council feedback on certain proposed budget items, including compensation, new positions, use of fund balance, and potential millage increase.



Points to Consider:

Council received the Administrator's recommended budget and alternate budget at the May 3 Special Council meeting.  The Administrator would like more County Council feedback and input in order to finalize the First Reading of the budget ordinance on May 22, 2023.

 

Both the recommended and Alternate budget proposals include a pay increase for County employees, but to varying degrees, and a list of one-time purchases to use with fund balance.  Input on the compensation levels as well as the projects to be purchased or completed with fund balance will be sought.

 

The alternate budget includes eight new positions in the general fund.  These new positions with the alternate budgets higher level of compensation would result in a millage increase.  Input regarding the new positions and level of millage increase will be sought.

 



Funding and Liability Factors:

This input and feedback will determine the composition of the 2023-2024 Fiscal Year budget.



Recommendation:

Provide feedback on compensation, new positions, fund balance use and millage increase.
