Public Works has identified a need for a new bulldozer in the road maintenance department and has included a request for $260,000 in their FY25 capital budget.
Staff recently learned there is a used 2017 bulldozer available for $112,600 (including a trade-in credit of $17,400) that would meet the County Road needs and eliminate the need for a brand new dozer, thus saving the County money.
There is not enough money in the FY24 roads budget to cover the full price of this dozer, but funding can be freed up in the solid waste fund of public works to help support this purchase. However, the transfer amount is above the County Administrator's $20,000 threshold to transfer, thus this requires Council action.
This budget adjustment authorizes the transfer of $63,000 from the Solid Waste Management departmental budget to Road Maintenance.
This purchase will eliminate the need for a $260,000 capital request for a brand new dozer in next fiscal year and will support the work of Public Safety, Parks and Recreation, and other departments in need of heavy construction assistance.
