Council Action Requested:

Council would like to recognize Indian Land High School graduate, Landyn Filliben, for winning the State and National Skills USA Competitions for firefighting programs.

Points to Consider:

Landyn Filliben, a graduate of Indian Land High School, attended the Lancaster County Fire Rescue High School Career Center program. During his time in the program, he was Class Captain for two years. In March, he attended the South Carolina Skills, USA, State Competition in Greenville, South Carolina. He competed against 13 other Firefighting programs in the State and he won that competition. After that win, he advanced to the National Skills USA Competition in Atlanta, Georgia, where he competed against students from 32 other States. The competition took place over three days, where competitors took a written test, a sit down interview, rope tying stations, and inside and outside skill circuits. Landyn was awarded the Gold medal and placed first in this National Competition. His instructor was Sam Plyler.



Funding and Liability Factors:

The County helps fund the Lancaster County Fire Rescue High School Career Center program.
